Nominations Open for Special Awards, DEADLINE: JUNE 30
 
Nominations are currently being accepted from IBMA members for the following awards, to be presented during World of Bluegrass Week, Sept. 26 – Oct. 2, in Nashvile, Tenn.
 
  • Bluegrass Broadcaster of the Year
  • Print Media Person of the Year

  • Best Graphic Design for a Recorded Project

  • Best Liner Notes for a Recorded Project

  • Bluegrass Event of the Year.


The eligibility period for special awards is April 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011.   Broadcasting and print media accomplishments during this time frame should be considered by those writing letters of nomination.   Bluegrass events nominated need to have taken place during this time frame, and writers/designers nominated for the Liner Notes and Graphic Design awards should have their work included on CDs released for the first time commercially during the eligibility period. 
Nominations for the five awards will be evaluated by special awards committees appointed by the IBMA board chairman.    For more info, contact Nancy Cardwell at 615-256-3222 or nancyc@ibma.org.

>IBMA April Webinar, "Closing the Deal: Sales"

Mary Sue Twohy, Account Manager for WAMU’s Bluegrass Country, will host the April 19 webinar, scheduled for 6-7:30 p.m. Central time.  Twohy is a radio host on Sirius XM and has released three albums herself, she sells underwriting for WAMU’s Bluegrass Country, and she resides in the Washington DC Metropolitan area.  
Participants at IBMA webinars click on an emailed link to enter the virtual classroom and then dial into a conference call number or access audio through a computer headset.  Questions will be taken throughout the training verbally or in a Q&A box located in the corner of each participant’s computer screen—depending on the size of the class.

The fee is $40 for IBMA members or $50 for non-members. IBMA members are welcome to submit ideas for future webinars to nancyc@ibma.orgALSO, if you have an area of expertise you would like to share at an IBMA webinar, please let us know that, too.

Friends and fans of Phil Leadbetter, resphonic guitar player with the Whites, can now check a dedicated Facebook page for information and updates on the first scheduled benefit to raise funds for Phil’s upcoming medical expenses (See Story on Phil’s Cancer Diagnosis)

Mike Kelly, a DJ at WDVX in Knoxville, TN is spearheading this benefit and writes:

A 5-string fiddle is to a champion fiddler like the entire Boston Pops Orchestra is to Arthur Fielder.

Grand National Fiddle Champion Kimber Ludiker has her eye on just such a fiddle and has come up with a clever way to obtain it.

Kimber writes:

“Friends! Family! Help me own this BEAUTIFUL fiddle. Check out my “Kickstarter” project with fun incentives like music, lessons, concerts, etc.”
